Privacy Policy

The Happenin SLC app (“the app”) is operated by Happenin Labs LLC(“we,” “us”). This policy explains how the app handles information. Questions: info@happeninslc.com.

The short version

Happenin SLC is a free app for discovering events in Salt Lake City. You don’t create an account, and we don’t ask for your name, email, or any personal details to use it. The one exception is the optional in-app feedback form: anything you send there — including an email address, if you choose to add one — is entirely voluntary (see below). We don’t show ads, and we don’t sell or share your personal information. Nearby-events features can use your device’s location, but only if you turn them on — your position stays on your device (see “Location” below). The app can also remind you about events you’ve saved, but those reminders are scheduled by your own phone — we never see what you’ve saved (see “Reminders” below). We do use privacy-friendly, anonymous analytics to see which parts of the app people use so we can improve it — it isn’t tied to your identity (see “Analytics” below).

Information we do not collect

The app has no login or sign-up, and the only device permissions it ever asks for are optional: location access, used solely for nearby-events features (see “Location” below), and notification access, used solely for reminders about events you have saved (see “Reminders” below). It asks for each only if you turn that feature on, and never on launch. It requests no camera or microphone access. Apart from feedback you choose to send us (below), it collects no name, email address, phone number, contacts, or photos, and stores no personal profile on your device.

Information processed to run the app

To show events, the app requests data from our event API. Your searches and category/date filters are sent with those requests solely to return matching results; they are not tied to your identity and are not used to build a profile of you. As with any internet service, our hosting provider’s servers automatically keep standard, short-lived request logs (such as IP address, timestamp, and device/browser type) for security, abuse-prevention, and reliability. We do not use this information to identify or track individual users.

Feedback you send us

If you use the in-app feedback form, we receive the message you write and, if you choose to add it, your email address (optional, used only to reply). To help us diagnose issues, the app also attaches basic technical details — the app version and your device platform and OS version. It does not attach your name, location, or contacts. Feedback is stored in a private Google Sheet we control (processed by Google as our service provider) and used only to understand and improve the app and, where you’ve left an email, to respond. Sending feedback is entirely voluntary.

Analytics

To understand how the app is used in aggregate — and to prioritize improvements and fix problems — the app uses PostHog, a third-party product-analytics service. This is anonymous, product-usage analytics; it is not advertising and not cross-app or cross-site tracking.

What it collects:interaction events — for example a screen being viewed, a category filter being used, an event being opened, or a “Get tickets” link being tapped — together with technical context automatically attached to each event: your device type and model, operating-system name and version, the app version, and your language/region. Each install is given a randomly generated identifier so we can count unique devices and sessions; it is not linked to your name or any account. We have turned offPostHog’s IP-based location lookup, so no location — not even an approximate city — is derived from your connection. If you turn on the app’s optional location features, your coordinates are neversent to analytics either — at most we record that location was turned on or off and the rough accuracy level your device reported (a number of meters), not where you are.

What it does not collect:we do not attach your name or email (there is no account), and we do not send the text you type into search — only that a search happened and how many characters it contained. We do not use advertising identifiers.

Who processes it: analytics data is processed on our behalf by PostHog, Inc. as our service provider, under its own privacy terms, and by our hosting providers. We do not sell it. You can reset the random identifier at any time by reinstalling the app.

Location

The app offers optionallocation features — such as showing your position on a map of events or filtering events by distance from you. These only work if you choose to grant location permission through your device’s standard system prompt, which the app shows only when you tap a location feature — never on launch. Location is used only while you’re using the app (no background access), and your position is used on your deviceto compute distances and place the map pin. Your coordinates are not stored on our servers, not sent to our event API, not shared, and not sold; analytics receives only the on/off outcome and a rough accuracy number, never your coordinates (see “Analytics” above). You can turn location off at any time in your device’s system settings, and everything else in the app keeps working.

Separately, when you tap a venue’s “Open in Maps,” your device’s own Maps app opens — we don’t receive your location. And because we have turned off our analytics provider’s IP-based location lookup, it does not derive even an approximate city from your connection (see “Analytics” above).

Reminders

The app can send you optionalreminders about events you have saved to your favorites — the evening before, the morning of, or both. These only work if you turn them on in the app’s settings and grant notification permission through your device’s standard system prompt, which the app shows only at that moment — never on launch.

Your favorites are stored only on your device, and reminders are scheduled by your device. We never receive the list of events you have saved, we do not know when you will be reminded, and no reminder is ever sent from our servers. If several of your saved events fall on the same day, your phone combines them into a single reminder. Analytics receives only the on/off outcome and counts — never event names or dates (see “Analytics” above). You can turn reminders off at any time in the app’s settings or in your device’s system settings, and everything else in the app keeps working.

Links to other services

The app links to third-party sites you choose to open — e.g. Instagram, ticket sellers, event pages, and map providers. Once you leave the app, those services’ own privacy policies govern your information. We aren’t responsible for their practices.

Children

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data retention

Anonymous analytics events are retained by our analytics provider for a limited period so we can see trends over time, and then age out. Feedback you send us (including an email, if you provided one) is kept in our feedback Sheet only as long as it’s useful for support and improving the app, and you can ask us to delete it at any time. Server request logs are kept only briefly for security and operations and then discarded or overwritten in the normal course.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. under the CCPA/CPRA or GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Our analytics is anonymous and not linked to your identity, so we generally can’t single out “your” analytics data on request — but you can stop contributing to it at any time by reinstalling the app to reset its random identifier, or by not using the app. Beyond anonymous analytics, we don’t maintain personal information about app users apart from feedback you’ve voluntarily sent, so there is typically little else to act on — and you can contact us any time at info@happeninslc.comto access or delete feedback you’ve sent, and we’ll respond.

Security

Data is transmitted to our API over encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the limited information involved.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves (for example, if we add new discovery or personalization features). We’ll revise the effective date above and, for material changes, surface notice in the app.
